Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026
Voyagekit helps you plan trips, keep a travel journal, and turn it into a keepsake. This policy explains what we collect, why, how it's shared, and the control you have over it. We keep it plain on purpose.
Voyagekit is operated by GearKit AI, LLC ("Voyagekit," "we," "us"). For any question below, or to exercise a privacy right, email support@voyagekit.app.
Information we collect
- Account details. Your email address, or — if you use Sign in with Apple — the name and email you approve Apple to share. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
- Your trip content. The trips you create: destinations, dates, who's traveling, itineraries, to-dos, notes, and journal entries you write.
- Photos you add. If you add photos to a trip, we store those images on our servers to build your keepsake and place them on your map. Photos often carry the date and the GPS coordinates of where they were taken; when present, we read and store those coordinates so we can sort each photo onto the right day and pin it on your map. You choose which photos to add; we don't otherwise access your photo library.
- Location. If you open the map and grant permission, your device's live location is used to center the map. That happens on your device; we do not store your live device location on our servers. This is separate from the GPS coordinates embedded in photos you choose to add, which we do store as described above.
- Travel preferences. Choices you make while planning (pace, interests, places you favorite). We use these to build a profile of your travel style so we can tailor suggestions across trips.
- Device & technical data. If you enable notifications, a device token so we can send them. Basic technical and error/diagnostic data (app version, crash logs) helps us keep the app working. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
How we use your information
- To build and adjust your trip plans, itineraries, maps, and keepsakes.
- To personalize suggestions to your stated preferences and travel style.
- To let you collaborate with people you invite to a trip.
- To send notifications you've asked for.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the app.
- To comply with law and protect the rights and safety of our users.
How AI is involved
To plan your trips and build your keepsakes, we send what you share to our AI provider, Anthropic (the company behind Claude), under a commercial API agreement. Specifically, we send:
- your trip request and the answers you give while we plan it;
- messages you send to change or ask about a trip;
- notes you write in your trip journal;
- photos you choose to add to a keepsake — these are sent to Anthropic to help select and arrange the keepsake's images. We do not send your photos to generate a trip plan;
- booking confirmations you attach to an itinerary stop — screenshots or documents — which are read to mark the matching booking done. These can contain names and confirmation details, so attach only what you're comfortable sharing; and
- details about your travel party that you enter, like names and preferences, used to tailor the plan.
Per Anthropic's commercial terms, the inputs and outputs sent through the API are not used to train their models, and we do not consent to any such training use. We use this content only to produce your results, never to sell you ads. It is retained as described in "How long we keep your data" below.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with the service providers ("sub-processors") who help us run Voyagekit, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Clerk — account authentication and sign-in.
- Anthropic — AI generation of itineraries and keepsakes (commercial terms; no model training).
- Railway — application hosting and database.
- Vercel — web hosting for this site and shared keepsake links.
- Mapping & geocoding providers (including OpenStreetMap / CARTO map tiles) — to show your trip on a map. These providers may receive your IP address and the coordinates being displayed.
If you create a shareable keepsake link, anyone with that link can view the trip content and photos you included, including any location shown on the keepsake. Links are unlisted but not password-protected — delete the keepsake to revoke access.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public. If you invite others to a trip, the trip's content is visible to those collaborators, and we use the email you provide to send the invitation.
Planning without an account (guest mode)
You can plan a trip without creating an account. We store that trip against an anonymous guest identifier so you can keep working and later claim it into an account, at which point it becomes part of your account. We automatically delete unclaimed guest trips after 90 days of inactivity. To have guest data removed sooner, email support@voyagekit.app from the device you planned on; we authenticate guest deletion requests on a best-effort basis by matching the guest identifier stored on that device.
How long we keep your data
We keep account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app — open Account and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your trips, journals, keepsakes, photos, and profile, and deletes your sign-in identity (including the link to your Apple sign-in or email login). It cannot be undone. On deletion, your content is removed from our active systems immediately and ages out of routine encrypted backups within 30 days. Unclaimed guest trips are deleted after 90 days as described above. Technical and diagnostic logs are retained for a limited period (generally up to 90 days) and then deleted. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that can no longer be linked to you.
Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can access, correct, or delete your information — most of it directly in the app (Account settings and Delete account) — or by emailing support@voyagekit.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
We collect these categories of personal information: identifiers (email, name, account and device IDs); internet/app activity (how you use the app; diagnostics); precise geolocation (the GPS coordinates stored in photos you add); visual information (photos you add); and inferences (your travel-taste profile). We collect these from you and from Sign in with Apple, and use them for the business purposes described above. We do not sell or share your personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising).
Sensitive personal information. We collect precise geolocation — the GPS coordinates embedded in photos you choose to add. We use it only to place your photos on the correct day and map, a purpose that does not trigger the CPRA right to limit, and we do not use or disclose it for any other purpose.
California residents have the right to know/access, delete, correct, and port their personal information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither); to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we already limit it as described); and to non-discrimination for exercising any right. To exercise a right, use the app (Account settings and Delete account) or email us. For an account, we verify the request against your signed-in identity; for guest data, we authenticate on a best-effort basis by matching the guest identifier on your device.
Europe & the UK (GDPR / UK GDPR)
The data controller is GearKit AI, LLC (contact: support@voyagekit.app). We process your data on these legal bases: performing our contract with you (creating and running your trips); your consent (notifications and location, which you can withdraw at any time); and our legitimate interests (securing, debugging, and improving the app, and building a travel-style profile from your in-app choices to improve your suggestions across trips — you can object to this profiling at any time). You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our providers are located in the United States, so your data is transferred there; where required, those transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
Security
We use reputable providers and take reasonable measures designed to protect your information in transit and at rest, and to limit access to it. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any regulators as required by applicable law.
Children
Voyagekit is a general-audience app and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in their country. We do not sell or share the personal information of minors. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
International users
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you use Voyagekit from outside the US, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the US and other countries where our providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and give you notice in the app.
